Geelong is a beautiful coastal city in the southwest of Melbourne located on Corio Bay and Barwon River. With Pace Advertising, where I work in, I got an opportunity to work on an Augmented Reality project for the council, City of Greater Geelong.
The app is called Love Central Geelong (Android | iOS), an app built with Cordova hybrid platform. The Augmented Reality (AR) functionality, was introduced as a part of the app. I made the AR module with Wikitude, a well known AR platform. The council wants to provide the visitors with an AR Xmas experience at popular attractions/places in the city including at the significant Geelong’s floating Xmas tree at Eastern Beach, City Council, Library and Little Malop Street.
The challenging part was to develop a reusable AR module so that I could reuse the module in future to support in any AR app, also to easily place 3D objects, video or images in the AR space with ease. Also, since this was a module for an existing app developed with Cordova, I had to use the Wikitude’s SDK for Cordova.
My heartfelt gratitude to all the team members. Including Budda, Nick and Ed who worked hard on the project.
